Physiological Roles:
It is a constituent of chlorophyll, and there fore, essential for synthesis
It acts as phosphorus carrier in the plant
It is essential for the synthesis of fats and metabolism of carbohydrates and phosphorus
It is required in binding two subunits of ribosomes during protein synthesis
It acts as an activator for many enzymes in phosphate transfer reactions in carbohydrate metabolism and nuceic acid synthesis
It is involved in the formation of seeds of high contents containing a compound called “lecithin”
It is ready mobile within the plant tissues.
